Clematis barbellata is a climbing shrub with its rambling habit as it covers trees and shrubs.Leaves are 3-foliolate and fascicled at nodes.Flowers are pale purple arranged in fascicles at leaf axils. In flowering season the plant offers an attractive sight due to the presence of feathery tails of achenes.

Leaf and root paste is used as an external application for the treatment of skin disease in Ethno medicines of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. In folk medicine juice of leaves is used for treating indigestion, diarrhea and dysentery, sinusitis.
